Job Summary: We are seeking a highly experienced and skilled Senior Production Sawmill Supervisor to oversee and manage all aspects of our sawmill production in Suriname. The ideal candidate will possess over 15 years of experience in supervising and managing sawmills.
As a Sawmill Supervisor, you are responsable of safety, integrity, citizenship, sustainability, and inclusion by working with other leaders and your team to create a positive environment with open, honest communication among associates. A large part of success in this role involves tactical planning, direction-setting, and leadership to meet and exceed Millport’s goals through quality work execution, teamwork, and operational driven reliability. You will also safely plan, coordinate, and maintain operational schedules and support maintenance to ensure continuous process improvement. You will be accountable and responsible for delivering top quartile results in the areas of Safety, Utilization, Quality, and Costs in the Sawmill. Additional responsibilities include coordinating team training, certification of employee skills, building employee relations, and managing Sawmill safety & environmental requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
- Plan, develop, manage, and provide effective leadership for the Sawmill’s Operations Team
- Ensure the safety of all associates by identifying safety issues and taking measures to proactively address concerns
- Actively supervise and develop the operational team to ensure effective communication across and between shifts
- Utilize troubleshooting skills to generate corrective work orders to reduce unscheduled downtime
- Efficiently use reliable troubleshooting methods to ensure uptime, production volume, and quality goals are met
- Effectively utilize training resources to maximize team technical skills
- Lead team meetings and trainings
- Identify safety, reliability, environmental, quality and production issues
- Coordinate with the maintenance team to maximize productivity and minimize cost
- Partner with Quality Control to reduce waste and maximize fiber recovery
- Demonstrate Caring Leadership by proactively resolving employee issues, consistently promoting solid teamwork, and ensuring adherence to all applicable site policies and procedures in a fair and consistent manner
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- 15+ years of experience in supervising and managing sawmills, with a proven track record in leading successful operations.
- Demonstrated commitment to safe work behaviors and experience leading and ensuring compliance with safety initiatives
- Ability to identify the root cause of problems and effectively initiate immediate corrective action to prevent reoccurrence
- Excellent interpersonal, written, verbal and electronic communication
- Demonstrated ability to raise performance and deliver top-quartile results by building and maintaining positive relationships with all associates through coaching, development, and instilling a continuous improvement mindset
- Strong planning and organizational skills
- Proven track record of demonstrating leadership skills and a positive influence, as well as accomplishments in proactively influencing safety, reliability, environmental, quality, productivity, and people development
- Demonstrated basic computer skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office, other Windows based programs, and internet skills
- Flexible with schedule and able to work any shift, weekends, overtime, and holidays as needed
